This will be a public community awareness event focusing on reducing stigma of drug use and overdose in NZ. It will be hosted by several organizations in partnership, including Whakarei, New Zealand Drug Foundation (NZDF), Auckland Drug Information Outreach (ADIO) / New Zealand Needle Exchange Program (NZNEP), Community Action on Youth and Drugs (CAYAD), New Zealand Prostitutes collective (NZPC) and Auckland City Council (ACC), building off of this year’s International Overdose Awareness Day theme of ‘together we can’.
We will have drug checking available, fentanyl test strip and nitazene test strip demonstrations, overdose recognition and prevention information, naloxone training and kit distribution, and harm reduction resources available. We will also have kai (food) prepared, space for kōrero (conversation), a performance and art provided by local group Recovery Street, short films showing by local filmmaker Holly Beckham, all in a local and central space on K Road which will be lit purple.
