Rays of Hope for Addiction will host the 4th Annual Overdose Awareness Day Memorial Drive, On Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church. 915 North 5th Street, Stroudsburg PA 18360.
This is a free outdoor event open to the public. The parking lot opens at 5:30 where participants can decorate their vehicles with messages of love and hope and display the names of the loved ones they have lost to overdose. Participants can visit a variety of vendors and become familiar with the local SUD treatment providers and area resources. Lifesaving Narcan is distributed free, as well as Rx Destroyer – the safe way to dispose of prescription medication. Participants receive a free T-shirt and other small tokens and gifts of love. The program begins at 6:30 PM with music and speakers, and a memorial slide show honoring the lives of the loved ones that have been lost to overdose.
This year participants will be introduced to the “10 Friends Project”, a new interactive project, which provides loved ones, that have lost someone, an opportunity to participate in sharing information about how the stigma of addiction is harmful, and how having a better understanding of substance use disorder, can help those that are still struggling, and ultimately save lives.
The program raps up at 7:30 PM at which time participants line up in their decorated vehicles for a police-escorted memorial drive through downtown Stroudsburg. The memorial drive ends back at the Wesleyan church where the hillside is lit up in luminaries, and a final candlelight prayer is shared.
This event is rain or shine. Water and light refreshments are provided. Washable window paint is also available.
