On behalf of the Nanaimo Community Action Team, I am writing to extend a heartfelt invitation to you to join us for the International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) event on August 31, 2024, at the Diana Krall Plaza. International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about overdose, reducing stigma surrounding drug-related deaths, and acknowledging the grief felt by families and friends who have lost loved ones. This year, our theme is “Together We Can,” reflecting our collective commitment to addressing the overdose crisis through education, compassion, and proactive community engagement.
Your presence at this important event would be a tremendous honor and a powerful statement of support for our community’s ongoing efforts to combat this critical issue. The event will feature a variety of activities, including a resource fair, open mic session, petition signing campaign, and a performance by comedian Peter Hudson, all aimed at educating the public, honoring those lost to overdose, and advocating for meaningful policy changes.
