Honouring Lives Lost and Inspiring Hope for Change: Overdose Awareness Event at All Saints Church

The Reaching for the Stars Optimist Club of Windsor and Essex County invites the community to gather at All Saints Church on August 31st for a poignant evening of reflection, remembrance, and hope. The event, held from 5 PM to 9 PM, will mark International Overdose Awareness Day—a day dedicated to commemorating those we have lost to the drug crisis while inspiring change for a brighter future.

You Are Not Alone, resonates deeply as we come together to acknowledge the impact of the overdose epidemic on our community. As we plant crosses in memory of loved ones lost, we not only honour their lives but also stand united in our commitment to prevent future tragedies. The evening will culminate in a candlelight vigil at sunset, offering a moment of quiet reflection and collective strength as we light the way forward.

“We honour the memories of those who have left us too soon, and we hold onto the hope that the actions we take today will help save lives tomorrow,” said Mallory K. Dickenson, President of Reaching for the Stars Optimist Club. “ This event is a testament to both our sorrow and our solidarity. We want those who are struggling to know they are not alone—our community stands ready to support them and their families.”

The gathering at All Saints Church, located at 330 City Hall Square, serves as a powerful reminder that while the grief from our losses is real, so too is our determination to foster change. The event will also provide a platform for information sharing, encouraging conversations around prevention, recovery, and the importance of community support.

As we come together to reflect on the lives lost and the ongoing challenges posed by the drug crisis, we also affirm our hope for a future where such losses are no longer a reality.
